How to Use This Calculator
Formula Explained
The calculator uses standard framing formulas:
Studs = (Wall Length in Inches / Spacing) + 1
Plates = 3 boards (bottom, top, double top)
Door/Window Studs = 4 per opening (2 king + 2 jack)
Plates = 3 boards (bottom, top, double top)
Door/Window Studs = 4 per opening (2 king + 2 jack)
- • Spacing is measured "on center" (O.C.) from stud center to stud center
- • Always include studs at both ends of the wall
- • Each opening needs king studs (full height) and jack studs (support header)
- • 3 plates required: 1 bottom, 1 top, 1 double top for strength
- • Headers carry the load above door and window openings
